The exhibition titled One Step at a Time is a part of Art Whitsunday's second birthday celebrations and will feature a range of intriguing art works by local artists around the central theme of shoes.
Art Whitsunday recently held a workshop to inspire local artists and members of the community to step outside their comfort zone and create unique shoes for the exhibition.
High heels shoes resembling beautiful swans, a children's playground and 1950's rock and roll memorabilia were among the many designs taking shape during the workshop.
Art Whitsunday co-ordinator Dot Smith said many artists were still busy preparing shoes for the exhibition.
"At the artists' discretion some of the shoes will be available for purchase," she said.
The event will also be supported by other works by local artists including beautiful sculptures, paintings, ceramics and photography of the region.
There will also be number of fun games including a round of twister on the night and a large shoe themed birthday cake to kick off the celebration.
All artists contributing work must deliver their pieces to the Art Whitsunday Gallery by Wednesday, September 25.
The gallery is located behind McDonald's on the Airlie Beach main street and the event is open to all members of the community.
Members meetings are held at the gallery on the first Sunday of every month at 2pm and new members are welcome to attend.
